4. Membership

  Article 40- Membership of United-Canada
40.1 Free Membership
Free Membership with the United Canada Free Society shall be eligible for all men and women born on the Land of Canada, or naturalized as if being born on the Land of Canada, or having a parent or grandparent who was born on the Land of Canada.
40.2 Members and Citizenship
Where the Charter and by-laws exist as the laws of a Local, State or National body applying to all men, women, persons and foreign agents, then the meaning of Citizen shall have the same meaning as Member.
40.3 Record of Membership
All Members shall be given a unique number representing their unique Membership to the Society and no two living Members shall be permitted to have the same Member number.
Once a person is accepted as an Member, their Member number is granted for life, regardless of whether they may be expelled. The number of a deceased Member may only be re-allocated after twelve months (12) has passed, with the family of the Member having permission to "reserve" the number for five (5) years as a preferred number for a family member after which time if the number has not been re-allocated shall go back into the general population of Member numbers and be re-allocated.
40.4 Sponsorship and the honor of being invited to become an Member of United-Canada
Because Membership with United Canada Free Society is an honor, a man or woman cannot directly apply to become an Member. Instead, an indivdual may only become an Member of the Society upon being invited by an existing Member to join.
This is called "sponsorship" and therefore all Members have a sponsor to whom they have both an obligation and a relationship for the life of their Membership.
An indivdual may only ever have a maximum of 144 directly sponsored Members, as determined by the rules of this Charter.
40.5 Founding Sponsorships
The first one thousand (1,000) Members shall be also known as the Founding Sponsorships providing a temporary suspension of the rule of having to be directly invited, subject to qualification to be an Member.
Qualification for Founding Sponsorship shall be open to all individuals over the age of 14, who are not currently an Member r and qualify to be a member subject to the restrictions and Terms and Conditions of membership of this Charter.
Founding Sponsorship does not imply a greater or more important status of Membership compared to any other Members. It is a type of joining the Society that exists only during the Foundation period of the Society.
Where an Member having received a Founding Sponsorship is expelled as an Member within twelve (12) months, the Founding Sponsorship shall be permitted to be re-allocated in either the same year.
Once a total of one thousand (1,000) Living Members exist, the offer of Founding Sponsorships shall cease and all sponsorships thereafter shall be by direct sponsorship by existing Living Members and no other method.
40.6 Bond of honor between sponsor and sponsored
By this Charter, there exists an oath of honor between a sponsor and candidate to become an Member. A sponsor is responsible for the good conduct of those they sponsored to become Members and sponsored Members are responsible to their immediate sponsor to behave in good conduct and intention.
Sponsors are bonded to the conducted of those they sponsor so that if an Member should be punished for misconduct, their sponsor is also liable for the same punishment.
This bond of honor extends to Members found guilty of expellable offences in which case both the Member and their sponsor shall be expelled, unless the expellable offence has been brought first by the sponsor against their sponsored Member.
The bond of honor shall only extend one level, so that the guilty individual and their immediate sponsor are punished, but no Members above or below in the Member network are also held liable.
